The Modern’s Slack Season:
A Winter Reset

This winter, the Modern is leaning into a new kind of Slack Season. The bar stays open with a focused drinks menu and the kitchen will have small bites with classic Modern apps a new collaboration with Ansots.

If you’ve spent any time in Boise you know what happens after the holidays. The pace changes. The city exhales. Calendars loosen up. The cold settles in. And restaurants feel that post New Year dip.

So this year, The Modern is leaning into it.

Starting January 1, 2026, we’re officially entering Slack Season—AKA our winter reset where we scale things down, get cozy, and make room to refresh what we do best.

What’s open during Slack Season?

The bar stays open.

We’ll be pouring a limited drink menu (still crafted, still delicious)
open from 4 – 9 p.m. everyday.

The kitchen scales back and brings in friends.

The kitchen will have small bites with classic Modern apps, charcuterie boards, and offerings from a new collaboration with Ansots. Looking for dinner? You’re within an easy walk of deluxe local dining options. Just ask our front desk staff for recommendations and they’ll point you in the right direction.

Watch for shenanigans

Just because it’s Slack Season doesn’t mean The Modern is going quiet. We’ll still be popping up with events, activations and the kind of Modern mischief that makes winter feel less wintery. Keep watch on our events page—and if you’ve been meaning to stop by, this is your sign.

The Bar is still your spot

Our bar space is open and welcome for gatherings. Every book club meetup, knitting circle, salon session or simple post-holiday catch up needs a great space to get together. Use ours!

Looking Ahead
